Horse-assisted therapy book soft cover
Equine-assisted therapy is the first book in Danish about how you can strengthen your mental well-being in a natural way.
The book is an open and honest story about how we humans can use nature and horses to relieve conditions such as stress and anxiety or process grief and trauma in a natural way.
Reassurance and acceptance
As social pack animals, horses have a particularly developed sensitivity, which they use to ensure that the entire pack is well-being and ready to flee. The horses are thus concerned that everyone in their pack is calm and harmonious, and Anna Maria Olsen uses this ability to create calm and trust among the clients she takes with her to the horses during therapy. The horses' calming behavior enables the clients to open up and talk about what is bothering them. The interaction with nature and the horses creates a trusting situation where introverted and sensitive people can feel safe and accepted. The horses do not judge but sense the person they are facing.
Background and exercises
Equine-assisted therapy is aimed both at women who want to work with their stress and anxiety themselves and at other therapists who want to include horses in their therapy. Anna Maria Olsen first gives an introduction to why and how she uses horses as her assistants in her therapy work and how she approaches it in practice. She then gives specific instructions for exercises that are adapted to the needs that sensitive, introverted women most often have. There are thus both specific exercises such as 'Sunday Summit' and 'Clarity 10', as well as courses for meditations adapted to level and experience.
Equine-assisted therapy is illustrated with pictures of Anna Maria Olsen interacting with her horses.
